- the very latest information related to Mysteries of the Sith.
-
- THE STORY
- You play Kyle Katarn, the Jedi Knight who vanquished Jerec at
- the Valley of the Jedi in "Jedi Knight." Kyle has traveled to
- a remote New Republic base to assist in the training of Mara
- Jade, a former Imperial agent who was turned to the light side
- by Luke Skywalker.
-
- As the demo begins, Imperial troops have launched a surprise
- attack against the base. While Mara coordinates the evacuation,
- you must help repel the invaders. To finish the level, find
- your way to an Imperial Shuttle on the far side of the com-
- pound. With this shuttle, Kyle will be able to counter-attack
- the Imperials in subsequent levels (included in the full ver-
- sion of Mysteries of the Sith).

- it may cause the game to crash. If this happens, restart the
- game and confirm that the Backbuffer in System Memory box is
- not checked.

-
- The Game Screen Status Displays
- -------------------------------
- The Left display shows Health and Shield levels. The top number
- is your Health Display: Full health equals 100 units. The
- Shield Display under it shows shield status, with the numerical
- reading in green. Shields are fully powered at 200 units.
-
- The Right display shows the Current Weapon's Ammo Indicator and
- displays the amount of ammunition left for your current weapon.
- Notice that switching weapons shows different readings on the
- Ammo Indicator. Different weapons use different types of ammo.
-
- Under the Ammo Indicator is a glowing field that changes in
- intensity and shows Force Energy. A deep glow on the display
- indicates full Force Energy. Using Force Powers will reduce
- your Force Energy stores, but they will replenish over time.
- Killing friendly characters will drain Force Energy completely.
-
-
- ---------------
- Inventory Items
- ---------------
-
- Bacta Tank
- ----------
- This portable device restores 30 points of health. Use the
- [ and ] keys to bring up and scroll through inventory items,
- then highlight a bacta tank (if you have one in your inventory)
- and press the ENTER key to use it. You can also press F4 for
- bacta tank quick-use.
-
- Field Light
- -----------
- Use for short-term illumination. Turn it on/off by pressing F2.
-
- Keys
- ----
- Some doors need special keys. Explore to find doors and their
- keys.
-
- Shield Units
- ------------
- Shields can protect you, but not entirely. They protect you from
- energy weapons, but not from physical damage caused by a fist or
- falling off a ledge.
-
- ------------
- Force Powers
- ------------
-
- Force Power Use
- ---------------
- Choose which Force power to use by cycling through them with
- the q and e or ; and ' keys. Once you have chosen a power,
- press the F key to activate it. Some Force Powers are activated
- instantly (speed, jump, seeing), while others need to be tar-
- geted (pull) for the targeting powers, hold down the F key
- until a reticle target glows around your target, then release.
-
- Force Speed
- -----------
- The Jedi, in or out of battle, moves with the quickness of light.
- Feel the Force flowing through you, quickening your limbs so you
- run like the wind.
-
- Force Jump
- ----------
- The intuitive leaps of the true Jedi are physically manifested
- in agility of body. This power lets you leap unnaturally high.
- A quick tap of the F key produces the highest jump. Holding
- down the F key allows you to adjust the height of the jump.
-
- Force Pull
- ----------
- The Jedi is never weaponless. Your reach is far with the Force
- as your ally, and weapons may be whisked away from under your
- enemies' feet or even torn from their unsuspecting grasp. This
- power grabs and brings items to you. It is useful for disarming
- enemies and reaching items in out-of-the-way places.
-
- Force Seeing
- ------------
- There is no darkness for the true Jedi. As the inner vision
- deepens, the outer, physical vision becomes more acute and all
- is revealed. No wall may hide evil, and the simplest map
- reveals the location of all enemies. When using either the
- overlay or 3D map, this power makes walls invisible so you can
- see the location of enemies and items. Your strength in the
- Force determines what you can see (weapons, items, or other
- players in multiplayer games).

- ###############################################################
-
- 1) General Information
-
- a) Lightsaber
-
- * To activate the Lightsaber, use the "1" key. It is
- now a toggle selection between Lightsaber and Fists.
-
- b) Installing and Uninstalling
-
- * Please make sure you have enough free space on your
- hard drive in order to play the Mysteries of the Sith
- demo. We have found that if you have less than 20 MB of
- free space on your hard drive after installing, you
- may not be able to start the game.
-
- * See the Online Troubleshooting Guide for more infor-
- mation regarding space requirements.
-
- c) Laptop Systems
-
- * Due to the wide variety of hardware configurations that
- ship with today's laptop systems, Mysteries of the Sith
- has not been tested with laptop systems and therefore
- we cannot guarantee compatibility.
-
- d) Task Switching (or ALT+TAB)
-
- * If you need to return to your desktop while playing
- the Mysteries of the Sith demo, please use the ALT + TAB
- combination to task switch. We recommend that you
- press ESC to go to the menu before task switching.
-
- e) Game Crash Issues
-
- * If the game unexpectedly freezes up, returns you to
- your desktop, or if you experience any other severe
- problems, you should try to properly exit Windows
- and reboot your computer. (As a rule, you should
- never turn off your computer while the hard drive is
- active.) This will help to prevent possible problems
- related to the error that you have experienced.
-
- * If you end up at a black screen or the screen appears
- frozen, please press ESC, Space Bar, or Enter before
- trying anything else.
-
- * If you encounter extended black screens, reboot.
-
- f) Pausing the Game
-
- * To pause the game during play, press the ESC key. The
- game will be suspended while in the Option Screen.
-
- g) Certain Features in Setup will not Work in Demo
-
- * There are options in the Setup Menus that refer to
- cutscenes, music, multiplayer gaming, etc. which are not
- applicable in the demo. These features are not implemented
- in the Mysteries of the Sith demo.
-
-
- 2) Internet Explorer 4.0 Active Desktop
-
- a) Active Desktop
-
- * If you are using Internet Explorer 4.0, we recommend that
- you disable Active Desktop before playing Mysteries of the
- Sith as it uses memory and resources that the program may
- need.
-
-
- 3) Gameplay Issues
-
- a) Game Speed/Resolution Issues
-
- * A slow frame rate has been shown to affect gameplay
- in Mysteries of the Sith. On computers with slow
- frame rates, Lightsaber Attacks may not always connect
- and the game difficulty will be greater. You may want
- to try using your Force Powers in areas where the
- lightsaber's performance is affected by a poor frame-
- rate.
-
- If you have a Pentium computer without 3D acceleration,
- we recommend that you play in a lower resolution (Such
- as 320X200, 320X240, 512x384). Adjust the screen size
- smaller to increase your frame rate using the + or -
- keys. Resolutions above 512x384 may not perform well
- in full screen unless you have at least a Pentium 133
- with a good 3D accelerator card.
-
- * Switching between the menus and the game using 3D
- Hardware acceleration may cause your display to
- flicker to the desktop and back. This is normal.
-
- * Clicking the "Backbuffer in system memory" check box on
- the Display Setup menu will improve performance on some
- computers without 3D hardware acceleration. Only enable
- this option if you experience severe frame rate problems
- when viewing transparent glass and water. This has to do
- with your video card's memory access speed. This feature
- is not compatible with all video cards and may cause
- problems on certain systems if enabled.
-
- * The Map Overlay increases the pressure on video mem-
- ory. If your computer slows down when this is turned
- on, consider using it when standing still or play with
- the map turned off.
-
- b) Console Commands
-
- Console commands have been included with the game to
- accommodate advanced player functions not available
- in the User interface.
-
- To access the Console, press 'T' then type your command
- and press Enter.
-
- Console commands:
-
- * Kill
- Kills player and restarts the level or loads a
- saved game. If you get stuck or your character's
- position becomes unplayable for any reason, type
- 'kill' at the console to escape that position.
-
-
- 4) Control Issues
-
- a) Keyboard Issues
-
- * The "Slow" function mapped to the capslock key re-
- quires that you hold down the caps lock key.
-
- * It is recommended that you avoid using the Windows 95
- key while playing the Mysteries of the Sith demo. There
- is a checkbox to disable this key in the keyboard
- configuration screen, which is accessible by pressing
- ESC and choosing Setup -> then Controls -> then Keyboard.
-
- b) Mouse Issues
-
- * The Mouse Config screen lists all of the mouse axes and
- buttons supported by the Mysteries of the Sith demo. Your
- mouse may not support all of the features listed.
-
- * The mouse Y Axis, or up and down, defaults to an air-
- plane style control (pitch), with forward being down,
- back being up.
-
- * If you have an Intellipoint mouse with a scroll wheel,
- you may need to open up the Mouse Control Panel so that
- the Intellipoint Mouse icon appears on the taskbar be-
- fore playing the Mysteries of the Sith demo to make sure
- that the wheel functions as a 3rd mouse button and mouse
- axis in the game.
-
- c) Joystick Issues
-
- * Joysticks: If you wish to use a joystick to play the
- Mysteries of the Sith demo, you must enable the Joystick
- (Uncheck the "disable joystick" box in the Setup/
- Controls/Joystick menu. We recommend you leave the
- Joystick disabled if you are controlling the game
- with the mouse or keyboard.
-
- * Configure Joysticks to Windows 95 controller ID 2 or
- below. Any higher and the game will not recognize the
- stick. Check this in the 'Game Controllers' Control
- Panel.
-
- * Uncontrolled Spinning can be corrected by calibrating
- your joystick from either inside the game (in the
- Setup/Controls/Joystick/Configure menu), or from out-
- side the game, from your Game Controllers Control
- Panel. This happens mostly with analog joysticks.
-
- * We have created several custom configuration files for
- various joysticks to use with the Mysteries of the Sith
- demo. You can load these by going to the Setup menu in
- the game. Select Controls, then Options, then Load
- Configuration. Choose your joystick from the list. If
- your joystick is not listed, you will need to create
- your own configuration or you can check with the
- manufacturer of your special control device to see if
- they provide custom configuration files for Mysteries of
- the Sith. The files use the *.CTM extension and should
- be copied into the Controls folder on your hard drive
- where the game is installed.
-
- NOTE: The configuration files that shipped with Jedi
- Knight (*.CTL) are not compatible with the Mysteries of
- the Sith demo.
-
- d) Sound Issues
-
- * If you find that the sound levels are too loud or too
- quiet and you are unable to change the volume through
- the Mysteries of the Sith demo options menu, then you
- may adjust these levels using the Windows Volume Control
- icon. Use the ALT + TAB keys to go to the desktop,
- then double-click on the speaker icon in the corner
- of the taskbar.
